Waterman Infrastructure & Environment is excited to announce a fantastic opportunity for an Ecology Consultant to join our Birmingham team, located in the city’s vibrant business district, just a stone’s throw from Snow Hill Station!

Our team in Birmingham plays a pivotal role in delivering sustainable solutions and ecological advice across sectors like transport, residential development, and regeneration.

As an Ecology Consultant, you will work alongside a supportive team, providing ecological assessments, surveys, and mitigation strategies for projects in the region and nationally. You will have the opportunity to be involved in the early stages of projects, conducting due diligence and feasibility studies, through to post-planning mitigation and biodiversity enhancements. Working with a multidisciplinary team, you’ll support the delivery of ecological solutions for both private and public sector clients.

Our Waterman Ecology team is a CIEEM Registered Ecology Practice exemplifying our depth and breadth of experience and technical excellence.

Key responsibilities:

• Conducting ecological surveys, including protected species surveys, for a wide variety of projects.

• Writing detailed technical reports, Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIA), Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) assessments, and mitigation plans.

• Collaborating with colleagues from different disciplines to deliver integrated, sustainable project solutions.

• Engaging with clients, stakeholders, and regulatory authorities to support project development and delivery.

• Contributing to the growth of the team and the development of new business opportunities.

About you: We are looking for a candidate with:

• A degree in Ecology or a related field.

• Full membership of CIEEM (or equivalent).

• Some years experience in ecological consultancy.

• Knowledge of Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG), Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIA), and protected species licensing.

• Familiarity with UK ecological legislation, planning policy, and the EIA process.

• Excellent communication and report-writing skills.
